Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, who is paying a visit to Macedonia on Monday, said that the extradition of former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski is a legal issue.
- Its not a political, but a legal issue. This is a matter for the judicial system and in Hungary politicians cannot ask questions about it, Szijjártó said at a joint press conference with Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, answering a reporter’s question why Hungary does not extradite Gruevski.
Former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski fled to Budapest in 2018 where he was granted political asylum. He has been charged in several trials and sentenced in the “Tank” case to two years in prison for the purchase of a luxury Mercedes.
