The independent candidate, supported by VMRO-DPMNE, Danela Arsovska, in the race for mayor of Skopje, defeated the incumbent mayor by 28,083 votes, according to preliminary results of the State Election Commission (SEC). During the campaign, Arsovska sent a message that she would defeat Silegov by 30,000 votes. The result is not far from what she announced.
At 100 percent processed votes, according to SEC data, Arsovska won 118,765 votes in Sunday’s elections, while Silegov 90,682.
Silegov won only in Centar, Saraj and Cair. In Saraj, 7,549 citizens voted for Silegov, as opposed to 2,462 for Arsovska. In Centar, the difference is much smaller, 11,305 votes went for the candidate of SDSM, and 10,799 for the candidate supported by VMRO-DPMNE. In Cair, the difference is double, 16,255 people voted for Silegov, 8,554 for Danela.
In Kisela Voda, Arsovska got 17,549 against 8,109 votes for Silegov. In Aerodrom, 20,981 people voted for the candidate supported by VMRO-DPMNE, and 10,981 for the opponent. In Skopje’s Gazi Baba, that difference is even bigger 18,771 people voted for Arsovska, as opposed to 7,785 for Silegov. In Butel Arsovska won 8,377, and Silegov 5,800 votes. In Suto Orizari, 4,000 voters gave their support for Arsovska, while Silegov got 3,641. In Karpos, now the new mayor of Skopje now won 15,704 votes, and Silegov won 12,981 votes. In Gjorce Petrov, 11,568 citizens voted for Arsovska, and 6,276 for Silegov.
