SOIP increased by 31% for trademark protection and 7.9% for patents in the first half of the year

The State Office of Industrial Property recorded an increased number of submitted trademark protection applications by 31% and more patent protection applications by 7.9%. The increased number of submitted requests for protection refers to the period from January to June this year compared to the same period last year.

– I am sincerely glad that the citizens have begun to recognize the importance of protecting industrial property rights. Through the protection of rights, the citizens not only build their own brand by which they become recognizable on the market in the future, at the same time they protect their capital from piracy, said Gerasimovski.

Statistically, in the first half of 2020, 563 applications for protection of trademarks were submitted to the State Office of Industrial Property, and in the first six months of 2021, this number increased to 737 applications. Regarding patents, in the first six months of 2020, 496 applications for protection were submitted, while in the same period this year, 535 applications for protection of patents were received.

In addition to trademarks and patents, the State Office of Industrial Property may protect the geographical name and industrial design. The protection of these products and ideas enables a more secure position on the market, strengthening the competitiveness of companies and increasing their market value.
The State Office for Industrial Property continues to strengthen institutional cooperation through which it protects industrial property rights.
