Exactly one year has passed since the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in the country, and the pandemic is still not calming down.

The first confirmed case was a woman from Skopje born in 1970 who was staying in Italy and arrived in the country through the border crossing Tabanovce on February 26, 2020, being transported in van with several other people in it. She was immediately placed in intensive care in the isolation department of the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje, after which the authorities started implementing measures, including 14-day isolation of the other passengers in the van. At first, it was not recommended for healthy people to wear masks, and then they recommended wearing gloves and masks to protect against coronavirus.

Although health officials said estimated that the number of infected would be 2.000 to 2.500 and the death toll in the country would be same, the total number of people diagnosed with Covid since the beginning of the pandemic is 101.214, and the number of recovered patients is 90.685, deceased 3.111 people, and the number of active cases is 7.418.

In the past 24 hours, 582 new cases of Covid-19 were registered out of 2.972 tests performed, 13 people aged 48 to 89 died, all in hospital conditions, and 374 recovered patients were registered.

Immunization against Covid-19, which first began to be widely used in the United Kingdom, and in the countries of the region in Serbia, was pointed out as the main mean of ending the pandemic worldwide. The country expected to receive vaccines through the Covax system, but it completely failed. There were announcements of receiving vaccines from neighbouring Greece and Bulgaria, but that did not happen.

After many delays due to problems with arranging the necessary documentation and guaranteeing the transport, the first 4.680 out of 8.000 vaccines from the manufacturer “Pfizer” arrived in the country as a donation from Serbia at the Tabanovce border crossing on February 14. With them, the vaccination of the medical staff working in the covid centres started.

The immunization takes place in the modular hospital at the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje, and so far, 1.677 health workers have received the vaccine against Covid-19. 67.700 citizens registered for vaccination through the website “”, and 43.789 through a family doctor.

At the moment when there are no vaccines for the Macedonian citizens against COVID – 19, and the British strain is spreading rapidly, and Filipche said a few days ago that no new restrictive measures are needed for now, the situation is under control.

Macedonia has become a hotbed in the Balkans and beyond in the region, all because of the incompetence of the Minister of Health Venko Filipche, and the citizens pay with their health and lives.
