US Assistant Secretary of State Nuland: Political Will for Finding Solution to Political Crisis Is Present

In just a few hours on Monday, US Assistant State Secretary Victoria Nuland held meetings with the 4 leaders of the political parties signatories of the Przino Agreement, Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki, and the Special Public prosecutor. She pointed out that she is optimistic in regards to finding a solution to the political crisis in the next following days.

“I have to say that I am leaving Skopje encouraged by what I heard here. I hope that over the next few days the negotiating teams will become united on some proposed ideas which will lead to holding elections. This requires a strong political will from all sides and after the meetings Monday I felt that a will is present”, Nuland said.

The US Assistant Secretary of State stressed that the role of the Special Public Prosecutor’s Office is vital for creating a just legal system and that she supports its operation.

VMRO-DPMNE President Nikola Gruevski pointed out that holding elections is the only way out of the opposition-imposed political crisis, and that VMRO-DPMNE is ready for elections. He said that in order for elections to happen, the opposition should commit to taking part in them and acknowledge that all conditions for holding elections are met, so SDSM cannot make further excuses for their postponement.

VMRO-DPMNE pointed out that their top interests are: advancement in integration processes, NATO membership, and implementing an intense reform agenda in regards to EU which encompasses further improvement of the situation in several spheres, including legal solutions proposed by the Government headed by VMRO-DPMNE.

“It was jointly concluded that a purged and trustworthy Electoral Roll must be provided and that media coverage must be objective. With the fulfillment of these conditions , it was concluded that there is a possibility of holding early parliamentary elections sometime in November”, the report states.
