VMRO-DPMNE’s Gruevski holds talks at EPP political assembly in Luxembourg

Nikola Gruevski, leader of the ruling party in Macedonia, VMRO-DPMNE, on Monday held meetings with EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, EPP President Joseph Daul, MEP Alojz Peterle, etc, at the political assembly of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Luxembourg.


Attending the political assembly of the largest party in the European Parliament, Gruevski said the gathering focused on issued affecting the European Union and the continent at large, MIA reports from Luxembourg.

“Today, several issued were being discussed at the political assembly, including the referendum in Great Britain, the economy in general in the EU countries, as well as issues related to migrants and refugees, i.e. the problems that are being created. We’ve also discussed developments within countries that are members of the EPP, i.e. which countries are holding elections and what can be expected from them, etc. This event is a political assembly covering a number of issues, where also different information is presented in a bid to be shared. It is also an event where preparations are made in order the EPP to be enabled to reach decisions urgently on various matters deemed important for the European Union and for EPP’s position at the EU,” Gruevski told MIA.

Later in the day, Gruevski and a VMRO-DPMNE delegation will attend a ceremony marking the 40thanniversary of the EPP. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of the European Council Donald Tusk, President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker are expected to be in attendance among others.

“The EPP, the strongest political party in the EU in which VMRO-DPMNE is a sister party, starts celebrating its 40th anniversary. It will be interesting to attend the celebration, same as the political assembly, because it opens many opportunities to establish a lot of contacts and hold meetings with many people with whom information can be shared, especially information that is important for the Republic of Macedonia,” Gruevski said.

The participation of Nikola Gruevski and the party delegation in the event is seen as a confirmation of EPP’s support for its sister party in Macedonia, MIA reports.
