Foreign Affairs Minister Nikola Poposki held Monday in Skopje a meeting with the Minister of State for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office, Michael Roth.

The interlocutors discussed the challenges and perspectives of Macedonia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration as well as the migrant and refugee crisis, MoFA said in a press release.

Minister Poposki reaffirmed the importance and role of Germany as Macedonia’s strategic partner in the EU-NATO integration process.

“Macedonia’s European perspective should be given credibility by opening negotiations as soon as possible. For seven years Macedonia has been fully prepared for the process of accession talks. Internal political challenges are settled through an inclusive process that needs to be completed in due time and without any delays with the upcoming parliamentary elections in April. Credible elections and substantial progress to be made so as to strengthen the legal state and economic development in the country are the focal point of the government’s activities,” stated the press release.

Minister Roth reiterated Germany’s principled support for the Macedonian EU-NATO integration process underscoring the importance of implementing the political agreement and respecting the recommendations noted in the latest progress report of the European Commission.

In view of the migrant crisis, the interlocutors urged a permanent and sustainable solution to be found with Minister Roth welcoming Macedonia’s engagement. Cooperation amongst the countries is exceptionally important to solve the crisis, he added.
