Ivanov at the extraordinary summit of heads of “Brdo Process – Brioni”

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov is in Zagreb for the Brdo Brioni summit, that brings together leaders from the Balkans with European Council President Donald Tusk and American Vice President Joe Biden.


The summit will also include Austrian President Heinz Fischer, Albanian President Bujar Nishani, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, Kosovan President Atifete Jahjaga, Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Slovenian President Borut Pahor and the three Bosnian co-Presidents Mladen Ivanic, Bakir Izetbegovic and Dragan Covic.

The summit was expected to focus on the issue of the refugees, whose flow through the Balkans has badly worsened relations between the transit countries and led to all sorts of restrictions on agreements to allow the free movement of people. The summit will also focus on the escalation of tensions between Turkey and Russia, the overall Russian posture toward Europe and the civil war in Syria. Macedonian President Ivanov, who arrived to Zagreb from his meetings with NATO leadership in Brussels, is also expected to promote the need of NATO expansion during the 2016 Warsaw Summit
