Obstacles, threats and excuses are not in the spirit of the European values and fail to contribute to regional stability, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) following statements by officials from the neighborhood and beyond, referring to the Republic of Macedonia.

“Macedonia’s strategic goal is to join EU and NATO. This is in the interest of all Macedonian citizens, for a better future, economic development, peace and stability in the country and the region. Interethnic coexistence and respect of cultural, ethnic, religious diversities and human rights are the cornerstone of the Macedonian society and constitutional order. We are all united for a European future of the country. Sincere cooperation and unequivocal support is required from all neighbors and international partners. All obstacles, threats of obstacles and statements offering excuses against our membership are not in the spirit of the European values and fail to contribute to regional peace and stability. Macedonia will continue to strengthen its cooperation with all neighbors and partners in the interest of regional progress”, reads the press release.

The MoFA reaction follows the statements by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama that his country would support Macedonia’s NATO accession after it fully implemented the Framework Agreement, as well as that of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who said that Albania and Bulgaria have territorial pretensions towards Macedonia, which Sofia deemed an irresponsible and unacceptable position on the part of Moscow.
