Athens and Skopje have not received an official name proposal from mediator Matthew Nimetz, nor is Greek negotiator Adamantios Vassilakis informed about a new round of talks, reads Greek daily “Kathimerini”.

“In the course of the UN General Assembly this September, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon briefed the Greek delegation that Nimetz would produce a new proposal. Diplomatic sources have said the end of October is the deadline for Nimetz to summon the countries’ negotiators in New York”, says the paper.

Greek media mention the report of Macedonian daily “Sloboden Pecхat” that Nimetz has a new name proposal, including name “Republic of Upper Macedonia”, Macedonian language, and the people dubbed “citizens of Upper Macedonia”. Greek newspaper “Eleftherotypia” also said few days ago the UN envoy has a new proposal ready for Athens and Skopje.

In this context, they remind on the last official position by Athens over a compound name with a geographic qualifier preceding the word “Macedonia”, not “Republic”, for all uses (erga omnes), MIA reports from Athenс.
