With many events in the country today will be marked 9 May – Victory Day over Fascism, and Europe Day.
State institutions, the President of the Republic and the Government, NGOs will organize a large number of events marking the celebration of these two major events.
– Macedonia respects, recognizes and values these two major events – the Day of Victory over Fascism, and Europe Day. They are based on the values we believe in and the citizens of Macedonia work for it, the values of freedom, progress and humanity, and in this way our country contributes to global celebration of these events which made big achievements, said government spokesman Aleksandar Gjorgjiev.
Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov on the occasion of the Victory over fascism and Europe Day today to visit the ARM in Skopje barracks “Ilinden”, where a parade will be held. Besides the parade, there will be showcasing of some of the equipment, resources and combat systems and materiel owned by ARM.
A panel discussion on “EU- from idea to a common future” will be held at the Cabinet of President Ivanov. Despite Ivanov, Head of the EU mission in Macedonia, Ambassador Orav Aivo, professors Veton Latifi from South East Europe and Ivan Damjanovski from the Law Faculty ” Iustinianus Primus” in Skopje will take part in the panel discussion, and Professor Dimitar Mircev will be moderator.
President Ivanov will address at the official ceremony which will be held at the Macedonian National Theatre as part of the celebration of the two events.
Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki, will hold a lecture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on “The EU and the young” before students from state and private universities, as well as young diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deputy Prime Minister Fatmir Besimi at the Parliamentary Club in Skopje will host the traditional “EU breakfast “, where ambassadors of EU member states in the country, U.S. Ambassador to the country, senior officials of foreign missions, and former Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs, are invited.
Day of Victory over Fascism and Europe Day will be celebrated at the Ministry of Education and Science and the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”. A forum entitled “Fascism and National Liberation Struggle” will be held at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje.
Today state delegations and delegations of citizens will lay flowers at the monument to veterans of the Second World War and AFB before the Government, at ASNOM and the monument of Kuzman Josifovski Pity in “Zena Park”, and also at the monument of “Cento” on “Macedonia” square.
“Jadran” Square this year will resemble to the “European artistic Montmartre”. Around 400 children from primary schools and kindergartens in the Municipality Center will participate in the event “Together under the same European Sky”. Twenty-eight students, same number as the number of EU Member States, will draw top reproductions of European artists from these countries, and students from the Faculty of Fine Arts will prepare drawings and prints of the unique Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali.
