Customs officials thwart attempt to smuggle marijuana

The Customs Administration’s Sector for Control and Investigations has thwarted at Tabanovce border crossing an attempt for smuggling 13 kilograms of high-quality marijuana.

The value of the narcotics on black markets in Western European countries is estimated at nearly 40.000 euros.

The marijuana, packed in 26 packages, was found yesterday by customs officials while searching a vehicle with Albanian registration plates driven by an Albanian national, who was accompanied by a friend also from Albania, director of the Customs Administration Natasa Radeska-Krstevska said Sunday.

After questioning the suspects, customs officials concluded that they had been hired by an Albanian national to smuggle the narcotics in a vehicle via Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Austria to Germany for 3.000 euros.

The Customs Administration has filed criminal charges against the suspects for illegal production and selling of narcotics.
