Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Gruevski, on Monday (December 9) is paying a working visit to Brussels, to meet with the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, MIA reports from Brussels. Gruevski will meet with the head of the European Union in order to influence the possible acceptance of a fifth consecutive European Commission recommendation for Macedonia to start accession negotiations.

As it seems, the conclusion for Macedonia will be agreed at the December 17th meeting between the foreign ministers of the General Affairs Council (GAC) of the European Union. So far, the lower working groups of the Council, on Greece insisting, have agreed to adopt a similar conclusion as in 2009 for the Macedonian euro integration future, when it was noted that “The Council notes the recommendation to open negotiations with the country, but the issue will return during the next presidency”. Chances for the foreign ministers to agree on something more, are small.

Gruevski on Monday will participate in a forum organized by the European Office of the German NGO “Konrad Adenauer”, a meeting with the ambassadors of the member states of the European Union, as well as a visit to the University Clinic in Leuven city.
