Ivanov-Rama: Political relations show a positive trend

The President Gjorge Ivanov today met the Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is paying an official visit to Macedonia.

Discussing bilateral relations, it was jointly concluded that the countries’ political ties are constantly being improved through a fruitful political dialogue. The interlocutors urged the countries to focus in the future on ways towards improving and strengthening the business cooperation, announced the Ivanov’s cabinet in a press release.

-“The countries’ political relations have reached a level which allows us to fully focus on what is most important for the well-being of our citizens – economy, investments, infrastructure, energy, cross-border cooperation, tourism, etc. These are the areas on which we need to focus our energy”, stated Ivanov pointing out the need of prompt completion of the Adriatic-Ionian motorway and its inclusion in Corridor 8.

The Macedonian President welcomed the cooperation between the two governments voicing hopes for its intensification in an attempt to define projects of common interest.

Furthermore, support for the common strategic goal – EU membership – was reaffirmed at the meeting, stated the press release.

In terms of NATO, PM Rama reiterated his country’s support for Macedonia to join the Alliance. President Ivanov thanked for the support so far saying he hoped it would be resumed in the future.

The interlocutors also demonstrated readiness to improve the good neighbourly relations and strengthen regional cooperation.
